Pest Watch: European Chafer

If you’ve noticed crows, raccoons, or squirrels tearing up your lawn lately, you’re not alone. These animals aren’t just causing chaos for fun, they’re on a mission to find food. One likely culprit is the European chafer grub. Fortunately, West Seattle Nursery sells live beneficial nematodes in the Garden Center, which can help reduce grub populations naturally. Organic Seed Potatoes in stock

Potatoes can be planted as soon as the ground can be worked in early spring, but you have to use good judgement. Potato plants will not begin to grow until the soil temperature has reached 45 degrees F. The soil should be evenly moist, but not wet or soggy. Learn more tips and tricks for growing and harvesting potatoes here.

This Month at WSN

Growing Gardeners Club

In August this year, we are going to have zucchini races! Of course, to have zucchini races, you have to have zucchini. So this month, we’re starting zucchini plants indoors. You’ll take home a container that has soil and seeds in it. Keep it watered, and when you see the seeds start to sprout, move the container to a sunny spot indoors. More information can be found here.
